Man armed with knife causes shutdown of Dublin’s GPO

He was disarmed by gardai at the scene and no one was injured during the course of the incident

Dublin’s GPO was shut this afternoon after a man armed with a knife entered the premises.

He was disarmed by gardai and no one was injured during the course of the incident. The arrested man, aged in his 50’s, is detained at a city centre Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A spokesman for An Post told Dublin Live: “The matter is in the hands of the Gardai and An Post will not be making any further comment at this time. The public office of the GPO is closed for the rest of the day and will re-open in the morning at 8.30am.”A garda spokeswoman said: “Gardai in Store Street have arrested a male (50s) following a public order incident at the GPO, O’Connell St, Dublin 1 which occurred this afternoon Thursday, 2nd November 2023.
