There are fears of a major escalation in violence in a Dublin gang feud after the home of an innocent woman linked to crime figure ‘Mr Flashy’ was shot up.
Gardaí believe the gun attack is linked to a fight at a concert in the city in recent weeks between associates of the drug dealer and another crime group.
There have been several attempts on Mr Flashy’s life and gardaí now believe the targeting of a female relative’s home will lead to reprisal shootings.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident in the Finglas West area on Halloween night. A number of shots were fired at the property before the gunman fled the scene.
It’s understood that people were present in the house at the time but no injuries were reported.
The home is owned by a woman who is related to Mr Flashy but has absolutely no involvement in criminality.
Rival criminals have previously targeted the house in the past as part of a local feud involving the 30-year-old drug dealer.
The porch doors of the house were smashed in an attack on the innocent woman’s home in April.
Gardaí confirmed the details of the incident this week in a statement to the Sunday World.
A spokesman said: “Gardaí were alerted to reports of the discharge of a firearm that occurred at a premises in Finglas, Co Dublin at approximately 7pm on the 31st of October 2023.
“No injuries were reported to emergency services as a result of this incident. Investigations are ongoing at this time,” a garda spokesperson added.
Detectives are aware of reports of an altercation at a concert in Dublin last month involving associates of the drug dealer and young criminals linked to another Finglas gang.
The rival crime group is connected to the son of a man nicknamed ‘Fishy’ who has been heavily involved in organised crime.
‘Fishy’, a veteran gangster aged in his 40s, has been linked to a recent murder bid and is also being investigated for a home invasion in south Dublin this year.
One source told the Sunday World: “There was a row between [Mr Flashy’s] crew and lads connected with Fishy’s son at the 3Arena. At this stage that fight is believed to be the motive for the house being shot at this week”.
Mr Flashy is currently before the courts in relation to a violent incident linked to ongoing feuding in the area.
The bitter feud claimed the life of his rival James Whelan, who was shot dead in Finglas in April last year.
There have been numerous other incidents linked to the dispute, including unsuccessful gun attacks on Mr Flashy and his associates as well as petrol bomb attacks and violent assaults. There have also been attempts to target his associates abroad.
Six British criminals, suspected of being contract killers, were arrested in Spain in February following a gun attack on three associates of Mr Flashy at a lake near the holiday resort of Marbella the previous September. A very close associate of Mr Flashy received gunshot injuries in the attack.
Sources close to the investigation believe the gang planned to kill the 24-year-old man shot in the side as well as the two other Irishmen he was with.
A submachine gun, four pistols and a Smith and Wesson revolver were among evidence seized during the operation, as well as balaclavas, a bullet-proof vest and a GPS tracker that the Brits allegedly used to follow their victims.
