A woman beat up her ex-boyfriend’s new partner and hurled “humiliating” racial abuse at her in an attack on a city-centre street while onlookers watched and did nothing, a court has heard.

The victim took refuge on an out-of-service Dublin Bus but Kim Porter (28) and another assailant opened it with the emergency button and dragged her off to attack her.

Porter later told gardaí she had “cracked” when she saw her ex and the victim, a beautician, kissing on the street.

Porter had denied assault causing harm but was found guilty in her absence when she failed to appear in Dublin District Court for her non-jury trial.

Judge John Hughes issued a bench warrant for her arrest and sentencing.

The victim told the court she had just said goodbye to her then boyfriend at Eden Quay on July 10, 2020, and was crossing the road when she was attacked by the accused and another woman.

Porter kicked her on the leg and the frightened victim boarded an out-of-service Dublin Bus.

The driver closed the door but the attackers used the emergency button, got on and grabbed the victim, kicking her in the back and dragging her off.

Face down on the ground, she lost a shoe, broke a nail and was pulled by the hair.

She crossed the road to a taxi and the attackers followed, throwing a flask and bottle at her head and screaming threats and racial abuse “about being Chinese”.

They continued to bang on the taxi before eventually leaving.

The racial abuse was humiliating and the attack was painful, leaving her back and legs bruised and her hand covered in blood, the victim said.

She had never met the accused before but said Porter had threatened and bullied her on social media and she recognised her from her profile picture.

Porter told gardaí she had “seen them kissing on the road” and “unfortunately I just cracked”.

The victim said she now had PTSD, struggled to got out alone for fear she would be “humiliated and beaten” and was “always looking over her shoulder”.

People had watched the attack and nobody helped. Her attackers had taken away “my freedom and my peace”, she said.
