A man in his 70s was arrested by gardai on Sunday following the discovery of a gun during a number of searches in Dublin.
Gardai seized the handgun and ammunition during searches in the Saggart area of Dublin 24 on Sunday afternoon.
The man was arrested at the scene but has since been released from custody.
Gardai said the gun will now undergo analysis while investigations are ongoing.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí have seized a firearm and arrested a man as part of searches in the Saggart area of Dublin 24 on Sunday afternoon, 22nd October 2023.
“Gardaí attached to the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) carried out the search and seized a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition.
“The firearm will now be sent on to the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau to undergo analysis.
“A man (70s) was arrested at the scene. He has since been released from Garda custody. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
