Carlow families living in fear due to anti-social behaviour on a local authority estate
Residents are being intimidated by the actions of one particular family

Families on a local authority estate in Carlow are living in fear due to antisocial behaviour by some other tenants.
Councillor John Pender voiced his concern at the monthly meeting of Carlow County Council that other tenants living on this particular local authority estate are being intimidated by the behaviour of one particular family who also lives there.
While the Tullow Municipal District Councillor couldn’t confirm the location of the estate to protect the other families, except for that it is in county Carlow, he did say “I had a woman on the phone to me earlier crying saying she is living in fear.
“There’s a family living on the estate that appear to be involved in anti-social behaviour. While we can’t say for certain, it seems to be drug related. Undesirables are calling and frequenting this house at all hours of the night, and unfortunately the wrong door in the estate is knocked on as well.”
He asked is there anything the council could do to help the families.
In response to Councillor Pender’s concerns, Carlow Council CEO Coilín O’Reilly said he empathised with all the families impacted, but urged that they go to Gardaí to report what was happening.
Councillor Pender explained that the Gardaí have been involved but acknowledged that it’s not a simple situation.
“The guards are watching the estate and are involved, but they can’t do much until they have a conviction.”
He added: “If any private landlord had a tenant that wasn’t behaving they would be put out very quickly, so why can’t the same happen in this situation. How are they allowed to live there if they are engaging in this type of behaviour.”
