A prolific shoplifter has been jailed for hitting one supermarket security man in the face and pulling another by the hair when she was stopped trying to steal baby formula and groceries.
Mother-of-three Teresa Dorman (37) hit the workers at two city centre stores while trying to escape after being confronted over the thefts.
Dorman, of Forest Lawns, Kingswood Heights, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to assault and a series of theft charges.
Judge Bryan Smyth sentenced her to 17 months in prison.
Dublin District Court heard a garda on duty at Talbot Street at 4.43pm on May 29 last year saw Dorman in an altercation with a staff member at Tesco.
She hit the security man as she tried to escape with €41 worth of goods.
On June 23 last year, Dorman went to Lidl, North Brunswick Street, again tried to steal goods and was stopped by staff.
She hit this security guard a number of times in the head and grabbed him by the hair.
She got away with the €43 worth of groceries.
She also admitted thefts from Tesco, Phibsborough and Jervis Centre, Dunnes Stores on North Earl Street, Centra, Manor Street, M&S on Mary Street, Arnotts, Boots and Next on Henry Street, Dealz on Liffey Street and Aldi Frascati Centre, Blackrock.
She stole thousands of euro worth of goods including cosmetics, beauty and hygiene products, meat, pyjamas, detergents and toys on dates in 2021 and 2022.
In some thefts, she hid the stolen goods in a pram and on many occasions she got away with the property.
She had 13 previous convictions.
Dorman had been on heroin from the age of 21 and more recently crack cocaine, her solicitor said.
She apologised for the crimes which were “not very well thought out”.
The accused was already in prison when she appeared in court and the judge backdated the sentence so she does not serve any more jail time.
