Dubliner threatened to take ‘legs’ from man if he did not pay him €30k, court told

It is alleged Mr Holland trespassed at a residential address in Coolock Dublin 13 on December 12, 2022, to commit an offence of making a threat to kill or cause serious harm.

A Dublin man accused of extortion by making threats to kill or seriously harm and demanding €30,000 with menaces has been sent forward for trial.

Glen Holland (41) of St Michan’s House, Dublin 7, was served with a book of evidence when he appeared before Judge Anthony Halpin at Dublin District Court.

The Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial on indictment at a higher level.

Judge Halpin acceded to the State’s request to grant a return for trial order and to send the accused forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where the case will be listed for mention in December.

Mr Holland was granted legal aid and told to notify the prosecution if he intended to use an alibi in his defence.

The judge also ordered gardaí to hand over interview videos to his lawyers.

The accused has yet to enter a plea to the charges formally and spoke to confirm he understood the judge’s order.

It is alleged Mr Holland trespassed at a residential address in Coolock Dublin 13 on December 12, 2022, to commit an offence of making a threat to kill or cause serious harm.

At that location on the same date, he is also accused of making an unwarranted demand with menaces to a named male, “You are going to pay me thirty grand this week or next week, or I’m going to take your legs from you”.

The final charge in the book of evidence was for criminal damage to the front passenger and driver’s windows of a white BMW car belonging to a named woman at Greek St, D.7 on November 5 last year.

Mr Holland was remanded on bail.

The charges are contrary to sections 12(1)(b) and (3) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994 and section 2(1) of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.
