Drunken dad threw chair at anti-Covid screen after row in takeaway, court hears

A drunken reveller picked up a chair and threw it at a Covid protective screen in a takeaway after he got into a row with a friend, a court has heard.
Patrick McDonald (34) did not remember much about the night, and could not recall why he and his friend had been arguing.
Judge David McHugh convicted and fined McDonald €500.
The defendant, with a previous address at Allendale Grove in Clonsilla, admitted a breach of the peace and criminal damage at Main Street in Lucan on July 10, 2023.
Garda Ronan O’Shaughnessy told Blanchardstown District Court gardaí were called to the scene shortly before 1am following reports that two men were intoxicated and being abusive and threatening in a takeaway.
Gda O’Shaughnessy said McDonald picked up a chair and threw it at the counter in the takeaway, causing minor damage to the Covid screen.
The court heard that McDonald had 38 previous convictions, though none for public order matters.
Defence lawyer Ciaran MacLoughlin said McDonald, a married man with children, did not remember much about the night.
He had been out socialising with a friend, the pair of them were very drunk, and they had an argument.
Mr MacLoughlin told the court McDonald was sorry for his behaviour.
