The “Black Friday” sign was obscured by the broken window being taken out by the glaziers at the Asics store. “Black Thursday” will be remembered for some time on O’Connell Street. Dublin’s main thoroughfare has been the site of many significant events, from rebellions to celebrations, but this is one for the annals of recent times.
Yesterday morning, up the top of the street, the shell of a burnt-out Luas carriage was being carted away on the back of an articulated truck. In the middle, the shops on the strip beside the GPO were cleaning up after the looting. And down the bottom, the bridge was closed as the road was being repaired from the scorch marks left by a blazing bus.
