One woman sobbed as she pushed a buggy through the crowd gathering at the top of O’Connell Street. She had to collect her child, she told gardaí – she needed them to lift the crime scene tape. Another mother wrapped an arm around her shoulder, guiding her towards a group of waiting parents who pleaded with passers-by to stop taking photos.
A normal Thursday afternoon had turned into a nightmare for these parents, who stood horrified as they waited for news.
