A man has appeared in court after an incident in Dublin on Wednesday night which saw two imitation firearms seized at the scene.

Sources said two men appeared at a home in Finglas on the evening of Wednesday, December 6, where they threatened the homeowner and tried to extort him. One of the men is believed to have been a known drug dealer.

However, reportedly the extortion attempt did not go to plan and the homeowner who was threatened, disarmed one of the alleged attackers and pinned him to the ground.

The gardaí were contacted during that time.

Gardaí confirmed they responded to a report of an incident in the Finglas area shortly before 9 pm on Wednesday, December 6.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda Station in West Dublin, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984..

Two imitation firearms were seized by Gardaí and no injuries were reported, An Garda Síochána said in a statement.

The man arrested has since been charged and appeared before Blanchardstown District Court this morning, December 8.

“As this matter is currently before the courts, An Garda Síochána is not in a position to comment further at this time,” Gardaí said in a statement.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
