A man has been critically injured following a stabbing in south Dublin.

Sources said the victim has suffered suspected knife wounds to the chest and neck.

The man is understood to have suffered the life-threatening stab wounds at a property in Castle Park, Tymon North, in Tallaght before 9pm.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident and discovered the man critically injured at the scene.

At this stage gardaí believe a younger male, who is known to the victim, was involved in the assault.

A suspect has been detained in relation to the attack and investigations are ongoing.
