Gardai in Wicklow show aftermath of car fire after driver fell asleep behind the wheel

Gardai in Wicklow have shared images of the aftermath of a car fire that almost cost the life of the driver when they fell asleep behind the wheel.

Arklow gardaí wrote in in Facebook post that they were alerted to a vehicle on fire on the N11 Southbound this morning.

“First to arrive at the scene, Garda members spoke to the only occupant of the vehicle who luckily escaped injury after falling asleep behind the wheel,” they posted alongside images of the burned out car.

“With great assistance from Arklow Fire Service the vehicle has been removed from the scene.”

They added: “We urge all road users this Christmas to take care while driving on our roads and if you feel tired to pull over safely and take a break from driving.”
