Shoplifter, who openly took drugs in view of tourists, is banged up for Christmas

A shoplifter who carried out a series of thefts from Dublin stores has been jailed for 14 months.

Lisa Hennessy (26) was also arrested for openly taking drugs in view of tourists and other passers-by in the city centre, Dublin District Court heard.

Hennessy, of Lymewood Mews, Northwood, Santry pleaded guilty to theft, public order and drugs offences.

The court was told Hennessy took hundreds of euro worth of goods including cosmetics and groceries from shops including Boots, Dunnes Stores, Circle K, Tesco and Arnotts, in incidents last year and this year.

The court heard in one incident, gardaí saw her passing a handbag to a man on a bike; after it had been stolen from a shop on Westmoreland Street.

Hennessy was seen openly using drugs on steps at Merchant’s Quay on August 8 this year, in view of members of the public and tourists.

On another occasion, she had €250 worth of cocaine on her when searched.

Hennessy had lost a number of family members recently, her solicitor Katie Dowling said, asking Judge Bryan Smyth for leniency.
