A woman was arrested for damaging sweets in a shop after she opened a packet of Lion bars she had not paid for and continued to “eat and eat” until she was stopped.

Rosanna Bradley (34) was on a “concoction” of cocaine and heroin when she damaged €25 worth of confectionery in the convenience store, a court heard.

A judge gave her more time to pay compensation to the shop after she pleaded: “it’s Christmas.”

Bradley, of Maple House, North Circular Road, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Circle K on O’Connell Street.

Garda Stephen Lynam told Dublin District Court he was on beat patrol on April 14 when a staff member called him into the shop.

He saw the accused opening a multi-pack of Lion bars and eating them. She continued to “eat and eat” until she was stopped, Gda Lynam said.

Bradley had a very bad addiction at the time and could not recall the events but accepted the facts, her solicitor Andrew Broderick said.

She was “highly intoxicated on a concoction of heroin and crack cocaine,” he said.

Bradley was now on methadone and hoped to get clean long-term. She had no compensation. Judge Bryan Smyth said the accused had “more than enough time” to address the issue.

“It’s Christmas, judge,” Bradley said, explaining that she needed money for her children and asking for more time to get the compensation.

“What about the injured party who is out of pocket since April 14?”, the judge asked. “I would love to pay for it if I can,” Bradley said.
