A Dublin man who was allegedly caught with a sawn-off shotgun following a search of his home by detectives has been sent forward for trial.

Sean Kavanagh (30) was served with the book of evidence when he appeared on bail before Blanchardstown District Court.

He is facing trial in the circuit court after the DPP ruled that the allegation was too serious to be dealt with in the district court.

The accused, with an address at Fairlawn Road in Finglas, is charged with the unlawful possession of a sawn-off shotgun at his home in Finglas on a date unknown within the State and September 27, 2022.

A state solicitor said that the book of evidence was ready and had been served on the accused, who goes forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge David McHugh gave Mr Kavanagh the formal alibi caution.

The judge also assigned defence solicitor Valerie Buckley and one junior counsel on free legal aid.

Judge McHugh further ordered that a video copy of an interview which gardaí conducted with the accused be provided to his legal team.

Mr Kavanagh has not yet indicated how he intends to plead to the charge.

As part of his bail conditions, Mr Kavanagh must sign on once a week at his local garda station.

He was remanded on bail to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on a date which was not disclosed in open court.

Ms Buckley said Mr Kavanagh was not in court earlier this month, when he had been due to be served with the book of evidence, because her client had been assaulted the night beforehand.
