A man punched his girlfriend on the face outside a bar, causing her to fall and injure her head, it is alleged.

Albert Okolo (28) is accused of striking the woman, leaving her with marks and cuts to her face and head.

Judge David McHugh adjourned the case to give the accused time to consider how he intends to plead.

Okolo, of Kildare Road, Crumlin, is charged with assault causing harm to a woman.

Blanchardstown District Court heard the incident was alleged to have happened at Main Street, Leixlip, Co Kildare.

Gardaí were called to the scene and the alleged victim told them Mr Okolo had punched her in the face, causing her to fall outside a bar.

She had marks to her face and cuts to her head from where she fell.

The DPP consented to the case being dealt with at district court level and Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction after hearing the outline of the allegations.

Mr Okolo was unable to be present in court for the jurisdiction hearing as he was working, his lawyer said.

Judge McHugh ordered disclosure of prosecution evidence to the defence.

He adjourned the case in the accused’s absence to February but said Mr Okolo would have to be in court on the next date “come hell or high water”.
