A charity is calling on the public to donate any unwanted Christmas presents to one of their shops in Dublin.
If you’ve gotten a present that isn’t necessarily to your taste, not the right size, or you simply don’t have the need for it, you can pass it on to someone who will get great use out of it.
Barnardos shops are calling for unwanted Christmas gifts which they will sell on to help fund the charity’s work with children and families across the country.
You can visit one of their four Dublin stores – Dalkey, Clondalkin, Kilbarrack or Dún Laoghaire – to give them that jumper that’s a size too small, the perfume you already have or a book you already read.
Not only is it a great way to help you declutter your home, but it’s also a chance to give someone something that they want at a discounted price.
“If you have received a gift that was too small, too big, or just not right, we will gladly find a home for it in our shop,” Bernadette Harrington, Barnardos Retail Shops Manager, said.
“The funds brought in from each donated item will go directly towards the work in 54 service locations, in family homes, schools, early learning and care settings and communities.
“In 2022, Barnardos worked with 20,838 children and their families, your donations will ensure our work can continue to support those who need it.”
President Michael D Higgins, a patron for Barnardos, added: “The early intervention of Barnardos gives many children in the country the chance to see beyond a landscape of sadness and hardship to a brighter future.
“I thank Barnardos for all it does to create a positive change in the lives of our most vulnerable young citizens, and I wish them continued success with their vital work for the year to come.”
Barnardos works with the most vulnerable children in society and helps them achieve their full potential regardless of their family circumstances, their gender, race or disability.
The charity has three other shops around the country – in Carlow, Cork and Wexford – that are also accepting donations.
