A man in his 30s and a woman in her late 20s have been arrested and charged in relation to a number of burglaries on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6 in north Dublin.

Gardaí were alerted to a resident having disturbed a man in their property in Portmarnock at around 6pm on Saturday evening.

They then conducted a search of the surrounding area and stopped a vehicle with a man and woman inside.

A large quantity of stolen property from the burglary was found during a search of the vehicle, as was other property.

The other property was identified as stolen from other burglaries in north Dublin on January 5 and January 6.

The man and woman were arrested at the scene and taken to a Garda station in north Dublin where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Both have since been charged in relation to these burglaries and are due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday, January 8, at 10.30am.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.

The arrests were made as part of Operation Thor, the Garda operation established in 2015 to combat the expected increase in burglaries and associated criminal activities in the winter months.
