The daughter-in-law of slain criminal Jason Hennessy Snr has paid tribute to him – describing the 48-year-old as ‘our hero’ for protecting his family during the gun attack that claimed his life.
Hennessy Snr, a father of four, was shot three times as he ran at machine-gun wielding killer Tristan Sherry after he entered Browne’s Steakhouse shortly after 8pm on December 24.
It’s understood Hennessy Snr, who was known to gardaí for his involvement in organised crime and who was due to face money-laundering charges next year, was not Sherry’s main target on the night.

His children, include sons Devon and Jason Jnr.
“Where do I even start,” Kirstie Duffy, the wife of Devon, wrote.
“The best man in the world you were. You’re our world and always will be… I’ll cherish our memories for life.
““You were so loved by everyone … ever the community hard-working man you were!
“The best husband, dad, granda, and also the best father-in-law to me … treated me like your daughter.
”I’ll never forget that you idolised you grandchildren and I’ll forever tell them about you and how you protected the whole family that night.
“You’re our hero and will always be our hero. It’s not goodbye. It’s see you soon. Love you so much. The Boss Man.”
Hennessy Snr, who worked as a recovery truck driver, had less than 10 convictions to his name – having only become involved in serious and organised crime in the last 10 years of his life.
A talented boxer in his youth,
It’s understood he drifted from selling alcohol, on which the duty hadn’t been paid, into drug dealing – ultimately leading to his becoming a key figure in a West Dublin-based organised crime mob at the time of his death.
