A man charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to two young women following a head-on crash in Co Longford last year has appeared in court.
Forty-five-year-old Jason Kurian, of Ballyclare Court, Ballyleague, Co Roscommon, appeared at a sitting of Longford Circuit Criminal Court following a collision at Drinan, Ballymahon, Co Longford on April 9, 2023.
Mr Kurian was charged with dangerous driving that caused serious bodily harm to two young women following a head-on crash in Co Longford last year.
He had previously been served with a book of evidence at a sitting of Longford District Court seven days earlier.
Mr Kurian was sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court to face two counts of dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm.
Family members of both women who sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident were in court when the case came before Judge Kenneth Connolly.
On foot of a submission by defence counsel Dara Foynes SC, Judge Connolly addressed both families to state the court would be seeking to engage a forensic collision investigation engineer to prepare a report.
Legal aid was extended to facilitate those efforts and to carry out an assessment of both vehicles involved in the collision.
Mr Kurian, who sat impassively beside a Malayalam interpreter, was remanded on continuing bail to a sitting of Longford Circuit Criminal Court on July 9.
