Furious locals say that their community has been forced to “move out” sex offenders being dumped in their town. Fed up residents say that the County Durham town of Ferryhill is being used to house a disproportionate number of criminals released from prison.
And, they say, that local lads are “moving them on” in a bid to protect the community in an area that they say has become a police-free zone.
Bob Taylor, 78, has lived in Church Street for 50 years with his wife Rene, who suffers with dementia. The retired electrician and grandad to six, who owns his own house, said: “I did like this street. But it has got a lot of undesirables – every Tom, Dick and Harry.

“It’s the same everywhere in Ferryhill. A lot of people come from London. There was a man from Middlesbrough. When they come, they don’t stay long. They get kicked out.”
The grandad said that he’s witnessed a lot of drug dealing and that he is worried for younger members of the community.
He said: “There is a lot of drug dealing. But I’m from up in Glasgow and nothing frightens me. I do worry about other people in the street and younger people.
“The man from Middlesbrough raped somebody. They move them in and the local lads move them out – child abusers and all sorts.”
“They are in for a couple of months in and wreck the joint. Try and set fire to it and away they go,” he added.
The dad-of-six says that the community is forced to protect itself as police officers are scarce – in fact he claims there are none on patrol in the area whatsoever.
He said: “The top and the bottom of it is we don’t have enough police presence here. We have none whatsoever. Nobody gives a s**t about down here to be perfectly honest with you. I’ve seen everything. They leave me alone and I leave them alone.”
He added: “I’ve been here 50 years. I’m a bit old to move now.”
Other residents we spoke to were too cautious to reveal their name – so spoke to Express.co.uk anonymously about the situation in their area – a town which initially grew around the coal mining industry.

A business owner who has lived in Ferryhill for 50 years said: “I have lived here for 50 years. There is lots of drugs around but I wouldn’t move now.”
The man claimed that “perverts” were dumped in the town after being released from jail.
He said: “I know they have got to live somewhere but whoever moves them here wouldn’t have them [living] next to themselves.”
