A major security operation is underway in Corduff, Blanchardstown this morning as the ‘Hulk’ themed funeral ceremony of slain Jason Hennessy Snr. takes place.
The 48-year-old, who was known to gardai and facing a money laundering trial next year, sustained gun-shot injuries after killer Tristan Sherry entered Browne’s Steakhouse Christmas Eve, and opened fire.
Hennessy Snr. was not believed to have been the intended target but was wounded when he attempted to disarm the gunman.
This morning, three busloads of public order gardai were drafted in to provide support to uniformed gardai and a large number of units from Armed Support as they patrolled the area around St. Patrick’s Church in Corduff ahead of the funeral.
A streaming service that provides coverage to parishioners of events in the church was cut shortly before the ceremony was due to commence.
At 11.05 am, the funeral cortege led by Hennessy’s sons Jason and Devon made its way slowly from the family home on Sheephill Avenue down Blackcourt Rd.
Dressed in white shirts and green ties, they walked ahead of one of the Hennessy family business’s ‘Hulk Recovery’ trucks on the back of which was carried the casket of Jay Hennessy Senior.
Wreaths and floral tributes describing Hennessy Snr. as a ‘hero’ and ‘grandfather’ were placed alongside the coffin.
The casket itself had been wrapped in an ‘Incredible Hulk’ themed cover and bore the words ‘The Boss Man’ on the sides.

More than 100 mourners walked behind the Recovery Truck as it made its way to the church as locals and a large number of gardai looked on.
Hennessy Snr will be taken to Glasnevin Cemetery for cremation following this morning’s service.
He died in hospital in early January more than a week after he was shot in the neck during the shocking incident at Browne’s Steakhouse in west Dublin on Christmas Eve.
The 48-year-old was enjoying a meal with family when gunman Tristan Sherry opened fire.
Sherry was ultimately overpowered and killed inside the restaurant with his semi-automatic weapon being taken from the scene.
The funeral of Tristan Sherry (26) occurred without incident in Finglas on Tuesday.
Floral tributes including a balaclava and pliers were seen being brought into the church as armed gardai kept a discreet eye on proceedings.
Sources say there are genuine fears that a bitter dispute between associates of the late Hennessy and Sherry may now spill into a wider feud.
