A man has appeared in court charged with carrying a “realistic” imitation gun in central Dublin.
Nelson Jumbo (32) was arrested after he was allegedly found with the imitation firearm on O’Connell Street yesterday.
Judge John O’Leary granted him bail on condition that he stays out of the Dublin 1 area of the city. The case was adjourned for DPP directions to be given.
Mr Jumbo, of an unknown address, is charged with possession of a realistic imitation firearm at Lower O’Connell Street.
The charge is under Section 9a of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

Today, Garda Aine Redmond gave evidence at Dublin District Court of the accused’s arrest, charge and caution.
She said Mr Jumbo, who is homeless, made no reply and was handed a copy of the charge sheet. Defence solicitor Tracy Horan applied for bail after the garda objected.
The judge set bail in the accused’s own bond of €300 with no cash lodgement required. Under conditions, he is to stay out of Dublin 1 and sign on three times per week at Anglesea Street garda station in Cork city.
He is also to provide gardai with a contact mobile phone number which he is to be available on at all times.
Judge O’Leary granted free legal aid and told the accused that but for his solicitor he might not have got bail.
Mr Jumbo told the court he would turn up in court after his release from custody.
The judge gave him until 6pm this evening to collect his belongings from Store Street garda station before the ban from entering Dublin 1 comes into effect.
The accused has not yet entered a plea to the charge, which carries a maximum potential sentence of one year on conviction in the district court or up to five years in the circuit court.
