Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s son Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud, at the Court of Appeal in Paris for the trial of Ian Bailey, who is accused of the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier who was brutally beaten to death outside her holiday home in Schull on the west coast of Ireland in 199

Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud, the son of murdered Sophie Toscan du Plantier, will appear on Friday night’s Late Late Show.

The 42-year-old son of French woman Sophie will chat to host Patrick Kielty about what the death of Ian Bailey means for his mother’s case, after the self-proclaimed chief suspect in the investigation into Sophie’s death passed away from a heart attack almost two weeks ago.

Pierre will also discuss why he is ready to now close that chapter in his life now that Bailey has died – while gardaí are still preparing a prosecution file against him despite his death.

In a post on The Late Late Show Instagram page, Kielty said: “On this week’s Late Late Show I will be joined by Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud, son of Sophie Toscan du Plantier to talk about what the death of chief suspect Ian Bailey means for his mother’s case, and why he’s ready to close this chapter of his life.”

Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud was 15 years old when his mother was bludgeoned to death with a large concrete block outside her holiday home near Schull in west Cork on the night of December 23, 1996.

A French court convicted the English former journalist Bailey of Sophie’s murder in absentia in 2019 however, The Irish High Court refused to extradite him to France.

In 2022, Pierre told Newstalk he hoped that gardai would be able to use “new technology” to help prove something in the case. Sophie’s son has always vowed he will never stop fighting for justice for his mother’s murder.

Bailey has been arrested by gardai twice over Sophie’s death, in February 1997 and January 1998, but was never charged and always denied any involvement up to his death,

The Late Late Show will air this Friday, February 2, on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player at 9:35pm.
