A woman who made a false rape allegation has had her case adjourned to give her defence time to submit a psychologist’s report to a court.

Ann Marie Keenan (37) was remanded on continuing bail at Dublin District Court.

Keenan of Kildonan Avenue, Finglas, has pleaded guilty to making false statements to gardaí tending to show rape offences had taken place.

She entered her plea last year and when the case returned to court, her solicitor sought an adjournment to April to prepare mitigation.

Garda Sergeant Tony Flanagan told Judge Mark O’Connell he had no objection to the adjournment and the judge put the case back to April.

Previously, the court heard Keenan made statements at Fitzgibbon Street garda station on August 13, 2022, and January 4 and February 14 of last year.

Gardaí took a report from the accused in relation to a rape allegation at a Dublin location. She alleged she was the victim of an assault, leading to an investigation.

When inconsistencies were put to her she “stuck to her story” and maintained the allegation in further interviews, the court heard.

When gardaí interviewed the man she named on a voluntary basis, he “had no knowledge of this taking place,” the sergeant said.

On the last court date, a judge said the man should be asked if he wished to make a victim-impact statement before the case is finalised.

The charge is under Section 12(a) of the Criminal Law Act. The DPP consented to the case being dealt with in the district court on a plea of guilty only.
