Man (40s) charged over seizure of semi-automatic gun in Finglas, Dublin

A Makarov semi-automatic firearm was seized along with 13 rounds of ammunition and a silencer.

A man has been charged in connection to seizure of a semi-automatic gun, 13 rounds of ammunition and a silencer in west Dublin.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested during a raid of a home in Finglas on Saturday.

At approximately 5pm on Saturday, gardaí attached to the Blanchardstown District Drugs Unit swooped and carried out a search.

During the search, a Makarov semi-automatic firearm was seized along with 13 rounds of ammunition and a silencer.

One man was arrested at the scene and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, at a garda station in West Dublin.

The man has since been released and charged. He is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Court number 2, tomorrow morning, February 5, 2024, at 10:30 am.

The seized items will be analysed by the Ballistics Section of the Garda National Technical Bureau.

Investigations are ongoing.
