Man murdered at Kildare apartment named locally as gardai quiz suspect known to him

Officers have made an appeal to the public

GARDAI probing a murder of a man at an apartment continue to quiz a suspect known to him.

The victim of the stabbing attack at the residence on School Street in Kilcock, Kildare has been named locally as 50-year-old Jeffrey Jackson, originally from Leixslip.

Investigators believe the incident happened during a row between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday.

The suspect, 40, was arrested at the scene and are not looking for anyone else in relation to the probe at this stage.

He can be held for 24 hours.

A post-mortem is taking place on Mr Jackson’s remains today, at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis.

The Garda Technical Bureau carried out an examination of the scene.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed at Leixlip Garda Station, while a family liaison officer is engaging with the victim’s family.

A garda spokesman said: “A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of this investigation.

“He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kildare.

“Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
