‘Fat’ Freddie Thompson pictured at court as he’s charged with threats to kill in jail

This is ‘Fat’ Freddie Thompson being brought to court this morning where he was charged with making two threats to kill and one count of assault causing harm at Portlaoise Prison.
The 43-year-old – who appeared in Portlaoise District Court wearing a grey jacket and washed blue tracksuit – was called to the dock at 9.59 am.
The Crumlin native, whose address was listed care of the Midlands Prison, is facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison on indictment for making threats to kill, contrary to section 5 of the Non-fatal Offences against the Person Act, and a maximum sentence of five years in prison on indictment in relation to the section 3 assault charge.
The details of the charges are that he is accused of assault and making a threat to kill at Portlaoise Prison on November 17th 2022.
And furthermore that he made a threat to kill at Portlaoise Prison on May 18th of the same year.
Det Gda Padraic Ryan told Judge Andrew Cody he charged the accused the accused this morning.

He said when cautioned Thompson made no reply to the charges.
Det Gda Ryan said he was handed a true copy of the charge sheet.
Thompson informed the court he was representing himself in the matter.
The court heard the DPP’s directions were that two charges of making threats to kill and one of assault be preferred against the accused.
A remand to March 14th for service of a book of evidence was suggested.
Speaking from the dock, Thompson asked: “How long is that for? I am looking for a two week remand if possible. It’s going back …”
Judge Cody inquired if Thompson would agree to a two week remand to which the accused responded: “Yeah.”
After confirming the book of evidence would be ready by this date, Judge Cody put the case back to February 28th for service.
He remanded Thompson on bail in the sum of €100 to be produced on that date.
“That’s a two week remand, is it?” Thompson asked.
“Yes,” the judge responded.
“Thank you,” Thomson replied.
