A former site foreman who exposed his penis outside a Dublin school had little recollection of his behaviour, a court has heard.

Kieran O’Sullivan (50) was found walking around in just a T-shirt on another occasion, again exposing his penis and buttocks.

Judge David McHugh sentenced O’Sullivan to five months in prison. The judge also imposed a separate five-month sentence, suspended for two years.

The defendant, of Maple Grove, Laurel Lodge, Castleknock, admitted counts of exposing himself in public and threatening and abusive behaviour.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Blanchardstown District Court gardaí were on patrol on September 1, 2020, when they received a call that a man was exposing himself outside a primary school in Castleknock.

Sgt Callaghan said gardaí spoke to O’Sullivan, who denied exposing himself.

He was wearing a black bathrobe and holding up his jeans at the time.

The sergeant said gardaí received a second report a short time later of a man exposing himself at Laurel Lodge, and O’Sullivan was arrested.

On September 8, 2020, Sgt Callaghan said gardaí stopped to speak to O’Sullivan, to remind him he was to stay away from schools, as per his bail conditions.

He had been seen near a school on Auburn Avenue, Sgt Callaghan said. The defendant became verbally abusive to gardaí, telling them to “f**k off” and “go f**k themselves”, the court heard.

Sgt Callaghan said O’Sullivan exposed himself again at Castleknock Manor on June 10, 2021. He stood in the middle of the path with his penis exposed, while young females were in the area.

On March 26, 2023, Sgt Callaghan said, O’Sullivan was found in just a T-shirt, and with no clothing on his bottom half, again exposing himself to the public.

Sgt Callaghan said O’Sullivan was fully lucid and had no explanation for not wearing clothes.

Defence solicitor Simon Fleming said O’Sullivan clearly suffered with mental health issues, and it had not helped that the defendant disagreed with his doctors about some of his treatment.

Mr Fleming said O’Sullivan worked in construction until a car accident in 2006, when he suffered a neck injury, and many of his problems stemmed from this period, he said.

The defendant lived alone, was on disability, and had no issues with drugs. His recollection of events was sparse to none, the court heard.

Mr Fleming said O’Sullivan was a very vulnerable person, and he asked the judge to be lenient, saying prison would be an extremely difficult environment for his client.

Jailing him for five months, Judge McHugh ordered O’Sullivan to engage with mental health services upon his release.
