A Slovakian national is to go on trial accused of kidnap and child abduction after he denied the offences on Tuesday.

Standing in the dock of Craigavon Crown Court and speaking through an interpreter, 33-year-old Marek Burietta entered not guilty pleas to each of the five charges against him all alleged to have been committed on 28 June last year.

Burieta, with an address at Spelga Park in Lurgan, faces accusations of child abduction, kidnapping, possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife, at Brookehill in Lurgan, attempted sexual assault of a second female and exposing his genitals “intending that someone would see them and be caused alarm or distress.”

Having heard that the trial would take a few days to hear, Judge Patrick Lynch KC remanded Burieta back into custody and scheduled the trial to begin on 3 June.
