A MAN has been sent for trial accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman at a hotel in Dublin in the 1990s.
The accused (73) had a book of evidence served on him at Dublin District Court today.
Judge Monika Leech sent him forward to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The man is charged with 22 counts of sexual assault on the same alleged victim at a hotel and another location in 1996 and 1997.
Today, state solicitor Ruth Walsh said the DPP consented to the accused being sent to the next sittings of the circuit court on all 22 charges.
Judge Leech gave the man the formal notice that he has 14 days to furnish the prosecution with details of any alibi he intends to rely on.
She also ordered the defence to provide copies of the accused’s garda interview to the prosecution.
The accused’s lawyer said he was not making an application for legal aid.
The man was remanded on bail on existing terms to appear in the circuit court on a date next month.
He was not required to address the court during the brief hearing and has not yet entered pleas to the charges which are under Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990.
When the man first came before the court last December, Garda Sergeant Tony Flanagan handed evidence of the accused’s arrest, charge and caution into court by certificate.
Sgt Flanagan said the DPP was directing trial on indictment.
