Two Dubliners accused of being involved with a criminal organisation have been sent for trial.

David Callaghan (27) and Jordan Strickland (28) were served with the book of evidence when they appeared on bail before Blanchardstown District Court.

Mr Callaghan had previously sought, and been granted, bail by the High Court.

Mr Callaghan, with an address at Harelawn Park in Clondalkin, is charged with directing the activities of a criminal organisation, both inside and outside the State, on dates between April 2021 and February 2022.

Mr Strickland, of St Helen’s Gardens, Adamstown, is accused of knowingly by an act participating in or contributing to an activity of a criminal organisation, thereby enhancing the ability of the organisation to commit or facilitate a serious offence, namely drug trafficking and money laundering,

The offence allegedly took place on February 4, 2022.

He is further accused of having benzocaine in his possession at his home on February 11, 2022, in circumstances giving rise to the inference it was connected to a drug-trafficking offence.

A state solicitor said the book of evidence had been served on the two accused, who go forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge David McHugh gave the men the formal alibi caution.

Defence solicitor Wayne Kenny said there was no application for legal aid at this point.

Detective Garda Gavin Curran, from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, previously said gardaí were seeking a full vouched statement of means, including details of income and property ownership. This had yet to be provided, the court heard.

Mr Strickland was also served with a separate book of evidence in relation to a proceeds of crime allegation.

It is alleged Mr Strickland possessed, acquired or handled €118,227 at AIB in Clondalkin between March 24, 2016, and February 6, 2019.

That book of evidence was also ready, the state solicitor said, and had been served on Mr Strickland.

The men have not yet indicated a plea to the charges.
