Defence Forces member arrested after drugs and cash found in barracks
The man is being quizzed by gardai this afternoon

A DEFENCE Forces member has been arrested following the discovery of a significant amount of drugs and cash in his barracks accommodation.
The arrest was made after an investigation by the Military Police.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that following an investigation led by the Military police, a search of sections of Collins Barracks, Cork, was carried out in collaboration with An Garda Siochana.
“During this operation, illegal substances and cash were discovered, leading to the arrest of a member of the Defence Forces.
“[They are], as a result, presently under investigation by An Garda Siochana.
“Additionally, a Defence Forces vehicle was handed over to An Garda Siochana for examination as part of this ongoing investigation.“This is now a matter for An Garda Siochana and the MPs will assist with the investigation.”
It’s understood the suspect was under surveillance and was followed by Garda detectives when he drove from Dublin to Collins Barracks in Cork.
He was approached at the barracks by Military Police and detectives and questioned.
He was searched as was the vehicle and his accommodation in the barracks. A significant amount of drugs and cash were found during the search operation.
