TWO men took part in a “premeditated” attack on a woman who was left with serious injuries after she was repeatedly stabbed in the groin at a Dublin flats complex, it is alleged.

Gary Brazil (44) and Bobby Griffin (20) are both charged with assaulting the woman who was allegedly attacked by a group of men and suffered four stab wounds to her vaginal area.

A court heard it was alleged that Mr Griffin sent a Snapchat message from his phone stating that the woman would be “getting butchered on them stairs.”

Judge Treasa Kelly granted them both bail despite garda objections and adjourned the cases for DPP directions.

Mr Brazil, of Upper Gardiner Street in the north inner city and Mr Griffin from Captain’s Avenue, Crumlin, are both charged with assault causing harm to the woman on March 6.

Dublin District Court heard the alleged attack happened at Thomas Court Bawn, Dublin 8.

Objecting to bail for Mr Brazil, Garda Tom O’Connor said gardai saw and heard a commotion on the third floor balcony of the flats complex at 8.05pm. They stopped four men who were fleeing down the stairs, including the accused.

Gardai also met the alleged victim who had severe bleeding to her leg and vaginal area and she told them she had been attacked by a number of males, one of whom had stabbed her with a white-handled knife.

A bloodstained knife was recovered from the top of the stairs down which the accused was fleeing.

Mr Brazil later denied all involvement.

The court heard phones were seized from both accused.

It was alleged Mr Griffin’s phone contained a Snapchat voice message sent from an account in his name. This stated: “I’m on my way back up with the blade. He’s getting butchered. (Named men) and whoever else comes out of the house. They’re all getting it. (The woman) is getting butchered on them stairs as well. Little rats.”

Garda Colm Carroll objected to Mr Griffin’s bail and said the nature of the evidence was “pretty much identical.” The evidence suggested the woman had been an “intended target” of the attack.

He said it was the state’s case that it was Mr Griffin who sent the voice message on his phone.

The alleged victim was not in court to give evidence as although she had been discharged from hospital, she had mobility issues, was not fit for court and claimed she had been “intimidated.”

The court heard there were two other suspects who had not been charged.

It was alleged Mr Griffin contacted the woman after the attack and called her a “rat.”

“She is very much in fear of the individuals who attacked her,” Gda Carroll said.

He said he had “massive fears” that “further violence might occur in the Dublin 8 area” if Mr Griffin was bailed.

Applying for bail, defence solicitors Eoin Lysaght for Mr Brazil and Niall O’Connor for Mr Griffin said their clients were presumed innocent and would abide by any conditions.

Judge Kelly said the charges were very serious but they were only allegations at this stage and she granted bail under “strict” conditions.

The accused must stay away from the location and have no contact directly or indirectly with the alleged victim and her family. They are also not to contact each other, two other named suspects and named “potential targets.”

They must sign on daily at their local garda stations, notify gardai of any change of address and be contactable by phone at all times.

The accused were remanded on bail to appear in court again on May 22, for DPP directions.
