Wexford Gardaí are investigating an incident which saw a woman pushed to the ground and robbed of her social welfare money outside the post office in broad daylight.

The incident took place at 9am on Monday morning. The woman had been conducting her business in the post office in Anne Street in Wexford town and when she emerged, she was approached by two males that were known to her.

One of the men was said to have asked her for a cigarette, before eventually snatching her purse and pushing her to the ground. He made off with €250 in social welfare money that the injured party had just collected.

A garda source confirmed that footage of the incident seems to have been recorded on a phone by a witness who was on the street at the time. CCTV footage from the post office was also being examined and gardaí are confident that they’ve identified the man responsible.

While no arrests have yet been made, an investigation is ongoing and gardaí are following a definitive line of inquiry.
