A teenager arrested last week as part of a Garda investigation into an €88,000 herbal-cannabis seizure is expected to appear before Listowel District Court on Thursday morning.
Gardaí seized the herbal cannabis in the North Kerry area last Thursday afternoon. A man in his late teens was subsequently arrested in connection with the seizure, then detained at a Garda station within the county, under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
Gardaí have now confirmed to The Kerryman that the young man has been charged in relation to the matter and is due to appear before a sitting of Listowel District Court.
This appearance is expected at Thursday morning’s Listowel sitting, although Gardaí said this could be subject to change.
The seizure, understood to have taken place in the Listowel area, followed an operation involving members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau; the Kerry Garda drugs unit; Revenue customs officials; and members of Listowel’s Detective Branch.
