A brother was seen dragging his blood-covered sister by the hair on a street in central Dublin after attacking her with his fists in “a rage”.
Dean Simpson (31) was “out of control” when he repeatedly punched his sister, leaving her with blood pouring from her face.
A court heard he then turned on investigating gardaí, shouting abuse and threats at them.
Judge Monika Leech adjourned the case for a pre-sentence probation report.
Mr Simpson, with an address at Mountjoy Square West in the north city centre, pleaded guilty to assaulting his sister with intent to cause her bodily harm.
He also admitted using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour with intent to cause a breach of the peace.
Dublin District Court heard the incident happened at Mountjoy Square on March 24 last year.
Garda Sergeant Tony Flanagan said officers were on patrol in the area at 1.40pm when their attention was brought to “a confrontation involving the accused and a female, his sister”.
Gardaí saw Mr Simpson dragging her by the hair and clothing out from between vehicles that were parked on either side of the road.
There was blood pouring from her face and her clothing was also covered in blood, Sgt Flanagan said.
The gardaí left their patrol car and as they approached, they saw Mr Simpson “further attempting to strike the injured party”.
They tried to get him to stop but he refused to comply with their directions and continued with his aggressive behaviour, the court heard.
When they got to Mr Simpson, he turned his violence towards them, shouting abuse at them and “threatening all and sundry”, the sergeant said.
He was arrested and brought to Mountjoy garda station, where he admitted he had assaulted his sister, punching her in the head numerous times.
He told them this was as a result of “a rage and he was out of control”.
Mr Simpson had no previous convictions.
Judge Leech adjourned the case to a date in July for a probation report and said she was not indicating any sentence yet.
