Two men are due in court this evening in relation to the seizure of €3.5m worth of suspected cannabis and cocaine in the Dublin area this week.

Both men, in their 30s, were arrested following searches carried out in Beresford Street, Finglas and in the Dublin 12 area on Wednesday.

They are both expected to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Court 2, on Friday evening.

A garda spokesperson added: “A male in his 40s also arrested as part of this investigation is still being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in the Dublin region.”

Gardai carried out a series of separate raids across Dublin this week during which 10 firearms and around €5m in drugs were seized.

In total 20 searches were carried out which resulted in weapons being recovered in Clondalkin and Ballyfermot while separate drug busts were made in Finglas, Tallaght, Dublin Port and from a storage facility in Dublin 12.

The most significant gun seizure happened on Wednesday when gardaí attached to Ronanstown Garda Station searched four homes in the Clondalkin area.

During the searches investigators recovered seven guns, ammunition, drugs worth €200,000 and €100,000 in cash.

Gardaí also froze €67,000 in a bank account and recovered tracker devices and mobile phones.

Commenting on the seizures, Assistant Garda Commissioner Angela Willis acknowledged the efforts by gardaí across the city in tackling the serious criminal groupings.

“Removing ten lethal firearms from circulation will no doubt save many lives and contribute to our efforts to keep communities safe,” she said.

“The impact of the seizure of significant quantities of illicit drugs and cash, believed to represent the proceeds of criminality, will also ensure that we continue to affect the ability of criminal networks to operate in our communities.”
