A Kerry woman who failed to stop after she hit a parked car ‘panicked and made a mistake’, Listowel District Court has heard.

Caroline O’Sullivan (37) of 19 Gleineach, Ballybunion, was before the court charged with failing to remain at the scene/damaging property in a hit and run incident on April 21, 2023 at Lartigue road, Ballybunion.

The court heard the injured party discovered damage to her car at around 1.45am.

The car had been parked. Damage was caused to the left wing and wheel arch of the Ford Fiesta. Subsequently Ms O’Sullivan made full admissions.

Her solicitor John Cashell said that Ms O’Sullivan was putting her hands up and admitting she made a mistake.

“She is embarrassed and ashamed by her actions,” he said.

He said the 37-year old mother had swerved slightly over to the left and hit the parked car. She stopped for a minute and then panicked and left.

She was contacted by the husband of the woman who owned the car and everything is now in order, he continued.

“She panicked and made a mistake,” he said adding that she should not be disqualified from driving as she had no previous convictions.

Judge David Waters convicted and fined her €500.
