A specialist garda has been sent forward for trial after being charged with making a false report of burglary, including the theft of jewellery.
Garda Fiona Somers (47), with an address in Sallins, Co Kildare, is attached to the Special Detective Unit (SDU).
Her case came before the circuit criminal court on March 15 and has now been sent forward for jury trial next February 24.
Gda Somers, who has been suspended, is accused of insurance fraud against Allianz Insurance Ireland.
Court records show she is charged that she did “dishonestly by deception induce… Allianz Insurance Ireland to do an act, to wit, to accept a false report of burglary including theft of jewellery with the intention of making gain for yourself”.
The alleged insurance was carried out on March 27, 2015.
The garda is also accused of making a false report of burglary to a detective garda at Naas Garda Station.
Ms Somers first appeared in the district court in 2021 in connection with the alleged crime. She was previously arrested and quizzed over the allegations.
