A man accused of assaulting a woman in a Longford park has been hit with a further charge of threatening to kill his alleged victim.
Thirty-four-year-old Michal Godla, of Annaly Court, Longford appeared at a sitting of Longford District Court today where the additional charge was read out before Judge Bernadette Owens.
Godla had previously appeared in court last month charged with assault causing harm to an unnamed female at The Mall, Longford town on August 7, 2023.
When the accused re-appeared this morning, Detective Garda Orla Geraghty gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in respect of the new charge under Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
Det Garda Geraghty said that when the charge of threatening to kill or cause serious harm was put to him, Godla made no reply.

Sgt Enda Daly, for the State, said directions had been received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for Godla to be sent forward to stand trial on both counts.
He added the DPP was willing to allow Godla go forward on a signed plea “should that arise” in due course.
Judge Owens subsequently remanded Godla on continuing bail to appear back before a sitting of Longford District Court on June 4 for the servicing of a book of evidence.
