Man accused of harassing woman for four years told to stay away from alleged victim

A MAN charged with harassing a woman in Dublin over a four-year period has been granted bail.

Ramazani Anzuluni, 44, with an address at Santry Lodge, Ballymun, Dublin, was charged with harassment of the woman from January 1, 2018, until July 1, 2022, in Chapelizod.

He appeared before Judge Paula Murphy at Dublin District Court yesterday.

The court sergeant provided a certificate with evidence of Mr Anzuluni’s arrest and charging procedure.

He added that there was no objection to bail with conditions “to stay away from witnesses and the alleged injured party”.

Judge Murphy noted from defence solicitor Donal Quigley that the accused, who has yet to enter a plea, agreed to the terms.

A summary of prosecution evidence was handed over in court to the defence. The judge warned him not to contact the woman or witnesses directly or indirectly, “including by digital means”.

His bail was set at €300, and the judge ordered him to appear again in May for Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Legal aid was granted.

A decision has yet to be made on whether the case will remain in the District Court or be transferred to the Circuit Court, which has greater sentencing powers.

The offence is contrary to section ten of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

A conviction at the District Court can result in a maximum 12-month sentence and a fine.

However, on indictment at the higher level, the offence can carry a sentence of up to seven years. The accused did not address the court, and no evidence about the nature of the alleged harassment was given at the brief hearing.
