Man (30s) charged over carjacking in west Dublin

After the first attempt was unsuccessful, gardaí said he subsequently approached a second car, removed the owner and drove away from the scene.

A man in his 30s has been charged over a carjacking in which a driver was forced out of their vehicle.

It follows two serious hijacking incidents in Dublin on Saturday night.

Gardaí received reports of a man attempting to hijack a car, shortly after 9pm, on the R136 at Grange Castle in Clondalkin.

After the first attempt was unsuccessful, gardaí said he subsequently approached a second car, removed the owner and drove away from the scene.

An operation involving local gardaí and the Armed Support Unit ensued and the car was intercepted on the Kathleen Tynan Road in Tallaght a short time later.A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and is currently being detained at a garda station in west Dublin.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court at 10:30am on Monday, April 15, 2024.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Grange Castle Road area of Clondalkin at around 9pm last night and who may have witnessed these incidents to come forward.

Any persons with camera footage, including dash cam, is asked to make this available to investigating gardaí at Clondalkin Garda Station on 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
