Dublin cafe owner says ‘another day, another break-in’ after latest robbery bid

A Dublin coffee shop had its window smashed during an attempted robbery at the premises on Leeson Street.

Perch Coffee became the latest business in the capital to fall victim to a break-in yesterday, joining many others who’ve experienced similar incidents in recent months.

Hannah Murphy, owner of Perch Coffee, said that she felt “lucky” her business is cashless so the thief only got away with a set of keys.

“It’s just not a nice feeling. We’re generally so lucky where we’re based when it comes to these sort of incidents,” she said.

Ms Murphy said these type of robberies are on an upward trend and while her area is generally okay when it comes to garda presence, businesses closer to the city centre “would feel a lot more safe” with more guards on the streets.

“It’s just unfortunate because it feels that these incidents are coming at a time where small businesses are being squeezed with cost increases and this is just another bill to pay,” she addedThe coffee shop shared the news online saying they had some “unwanted visitors” early yesterday morning, accompanying it with a picture of a huge rock used to smash open their side window.

“We appreciate all the kind words and support from our regular customers this morning. Stay safe out there, everyone.”

A garda spokesperson confirmed they received report of an “incident of burglary that occurred at approximately 5am yesterday”.

“No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.

Several other similar break-ins have occurred in and around the city centre in recent months.

Another break-in occurred at a small bakery and café on Aungier Street less than one month ago.

Other break-ins so far this year included one at Bootleg on Drury Street and the popular tapas restaurant, La Gordita on Montague Street, both of which unfortunately suffered a similar fate back in February.
