A Dublin man who allegedly produced a kitchen knife during the course of seriously assaulting a woman has been sent forward for trial.
Sean McCarthy (37) was served with the book of evidence when he appeared on bail before Blanchardstown District Court.
The accused, with an address at Bayside Boulevard in Sutton, is accused of seriously assaulting a woman at Meridian Court, Royal Canal Park, Dublin 15, on December 29, 2023.
He is also accused of producing a kitchen knife during the course of a dispute and with damaging a painting, worth €300, at the same time and place.
Mr McCarthy is facing trial in the circuit court after the allegations were deemed to be too serious for the district court.
A state solicitor said that the book of evidence was ready and had been served on the accused, who goes forward to the present sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge David McHugh gave Mr McCarthy the formal alibi caution.
The judge also assigned defence solicitor Evan Moore.
Judge McHugh also assigned one junior counsel on free legal aid.
He further ordered that a video copy of an interview that gardaí conducted with the accused be provided to his legal team.
Mr McCarthy has not yet indicated how he intends to plead to the charge.
He was remanded on the same bail terms to appear before a court in the Criminal Courts of Justice on a date in May.
An allegation of violent behaviour at Finglas garda station on December 29, 2023, was adjourned for six months, and will be added to the indictment at a later stage.
