Hundreds of used syringes, blood vials, and other hazardous materials were discovered in a public park in north Dublin.
Northway Estate Park, in Finglas, is regularly frequented by children and people with their pets, and the materials were found dumped close to a wall near where children play sports.
Local resident Stephen Redmond shared footage of the sight on social media and the incident was reported to local authorities and An Garda Síochána.
Dublin City Council dispatched a waste management team to safely dispose of the drug paraphernalia this morning.
A garda spokesperson confirmed they had received a report, and the matter is “currently under investigation by gardaí in Finglas”.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Anthony Connaghan told the Irish Independent there is an existing “drug market” in the area and that many addicts frequent several local parks to use drugs.
“There’s a significant issue with drugs being sold in the area, and the reality is that children, the elderly, and people with disabilities use these parks,” he said.
“It’s very concerning, and we have raised it on numerous occasions, but there just doesn’t seem to be enough resources to tackle it.”
Some of these parks include Kildonan Park, Mellowes Park and the dual carriageway embankment nearby which is also another hotspot for drug users to gather.
Dublin City Council has been contacted for comment.
