A father of one who smashed a window in a house was identified as the culprit after his DNA was found in blood spatter at the property, a court has heard.
Conti Birali (28) was now “destitute”, his solicitor said, and he had “lost everything” after he received a nine-year sentence earlier this year for a serious assault which left his victim with life-changing injuries.
Simon Fleming, defending, said Birali had “lost everything due to his own actions”.
Judge Máire Conneely convicted and sentenced Birali to four months in prison.
On a separate uninsured driving charge, the judge fined Birali €200 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
The defendant, of Parslickstown Drive in Mulhuddart, admitted criminal damage at Avondale Park in Mulhuddart on March 15, 2022.
Garda Shane Woods told Blanchardstown District Court he was called to the scene following reports that a window had been smashed.
Gda Woods said there was blood spatter around the window, and gardaí sent this blood for DNA analysis.
The blood matched a DNA sample taken from the defendant, the court heard.
The damage to the window was €420, the garda said.
The court heard Birali had a small number of previous convictions. He recently received a nine-year prison sentence, and was not due for release until December 2030. Birali was jailed for an unprovoked attack in Mulhuddart village in July 2022 which left his victim with life-changing injuries.
The victim, who was aged 38 at the time, is now a wheelchair user and needs daily care.
Dublin Circuit Criminal Court previously heard that a number of men waited an hour until the victim left a Dublin nightclub before attacking him and leaving him unconscious on a roadway.
Mr Fleming told the court that the defendant, a father of one, was now “destitute” and had “lost everything due to his own actions”.
He asked the judge to give Birali credit for his guilty plea, meaning that witnesses had not needed to come to court, and not to extend his time in jail.
