Convicted sex offender among duo arrested over vicious stab attack on man sleeping in tent as victim loses eye

A CONVICTED sex offender has been arrested after a man lost an eye after he was brutally stabbed as he slept in a tent.
A woman has also been lifted by Gardai investigating the attack outside the Irish Times office in Tara Street in Dublin on Monday night.

The victim – in his 40s – is currently being treated at St James’s Hospital.
It’s understood he had been staying in a tent in the area over the last week.
The pair, who are understood to be a couple. were arrested by investigators from Pearse Street Garda station earlier this evening.
They are being held on suspicion of assault causing harm.Although he lost an eye in the frenzied attack, he also suffered a number of slash wounds around his body.
The injured man is originally from the Ballyfermot area but had been staying in the city centre due to his addiction to drugs.
One source said: “The arrested man has a history of violence and has convictions for sex offences.
“They are being questioned about a brutal assault on an innocent man.”
