A MAN has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm to an 85-year-old woman in a nursing home.
Peter Keaney was flanked by officers from Athlone Garda Station in Westmeath to the nearby district court this morning.
The 54-year-old accused sat quietly in court as his short hearing got underway.
Sergeant Paul McNally handed in documents relating to the arrest, charge and caution of Mr Keaney.
Mr Keaney, of Hillside close in Athlone, is charged with attacking the alleged victim at Sonas Nursing Home in the town on Monday evening.
The court heard from defence solicitor Mark Cooney who said his client was not applying for bail today.
